Tap water iontophoresis can, in principle, be applied to any part of the body, provided that the area is small enough for the electrodes to fit, is hairless, does not involve the brain, and a second contact point for the current is available.
In principle, all areas of the body can be treated using tap water iontophoresis. However, there are some important restrictions:
Size of the body area
For safety reasons, the Saalio® device operates with a maximum direct current of 30 mA. To ensure the treatment remains effective, the electrodes are only available up to a certain size.
Hairy skin areas
The method is only suitable for hairless skin, as otherwise uniform contact with the electrodes is not possible and the current cannot flow reliably.
Skull
Treatment of the skull, i.e. the scalp, should not be carried out. The current could reach areas of the brain and trigger unpleasant neurological sensations.
Second treatment or contact point
For each treatment site, a second site is required through which the current can exit. This site can either be treated as well or simply serve as a counter-electrode.
