The effectiveness of the treatment depends on the dose – that is, on how much current reaches the skin per unit area and per unit of time. Three factors play a key role here:
- Current intensity
- Area treated
- Duration and frequency of use
Current strength
The current setting on the Saalio® device is the most obvious influencing factor. As a general rule, more current leads to a stronger effect. However, with tap water iontophoresis, a very high current is neither necessary nor particularly useful.
Treated area
The current is distributed across the area of skin covered with water. Therefore, it is not only the set current strength that is important, but also how large the area is over which the current flows. Example: Under the armpits, the area is smaller, so even lower current strengths work just as well as higher current strengths on the feet.
It is also important that the current flows evenly across the entire treated area. If the current is concentrated on just a small area, the rest of the skin is barely treated.
Duration and frequency
Treatment duration and regularity also influence the success.
The longer a session lasts and the more frequently it is carried out, the faster and better the results become apparent.
