Sometimes a tingling sensation may occur after treatment. This sensation is not always limited to the treated areas of skin, but may also radiate to adjacent parts of the body. The tingling may last for a few hours, but in some cases for several days, before it disappears completely.
What can be done?
- Review the treatment: Firstly, it should be ruled out that the treatment was too intense.
- Adjust the treatment: It often helps to make the individual treatment sessions slightly gentler.
This may mean:
- Shorter treatment duration
- Lower current intensity
- More frequent but shorter sessions
- Switching from direct current to pulsed current
Possible causes:
The tingling may be caused by temporary hypersensitivity of the nerves or, rarely, by changes in the nervous system.
When to see a doctor?
If the tingling is severe, long-lasting or distressing, the therapy should be stopped and a doctor consulted for further investigation.
